Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty) is a corrective procedure that can reduce “bags” under the eyes, and remove excess skin from the upper eyelids, and provide a more youthful appearance to the eyes. During the aging process, wrinkles, lines, and puffiness contribute to a tired or aged appearance.  The blepharoplasty surgery is often performed in conjunction with other facial procedures such as a face lift.

Reasons for Considering Eyelid Surgery:

  • Bags under the eyes.
  • Excessive skin of the upper eyelids, making them look tired or heavy
  • A tired appearance or puffiness of eyelids and extra skin
  • Patients tired of always being told they look "so tired"

General Procedure

The surgery takes about two hours.  The upper eyelid excess skin is removed and excess fat as well.  The scar fades very well but is along the upper eyelid crease.  The lower lids have a small incision under the lower lashes and three fatty pockets are removed, along with a small amount of excess skin.  Lower eyelids are completed next to eliminate puffiness and reduce dark circles.  In some instances, TRL laser technology may be used to smooth lower eyelid wrinkles, though laser does not remove fat.

Recovery Process

Post-operative instructions involve sitting in a reclining position and keeping cool compresses on the lids, as well as applying antibiotic ointment to the fine sutures.  Stitches are usually removed in a week.   Patients will have a more rested and youthful appearance.
